Cell-El Ltd’s research, as described previously, focuses on biomarkers of immune dysfunction in ASD that are important to help us understand and treat Autism. (See Biomarkers for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD): A Meta-analysis ). Essentially, we are exploring how biological issues like immune dysfunction relate to ASD. Since 1943 when ASD was described, if a child is diagnosed with ASD, the diagnosis was determined on the basis of observed behavior without any diagnostic lab tests available to confirm the diagnosis. Sadly the same thing is still true today.  Cell-El is trying to change this situation by finding objective biomarkers. Treatment that follows ASD diagnosis also usually consists of behavioral-educational  interventions. When medications (usually mental health medications) are prescribed, they usually are intended to reduce anxiety and/or adverse behaviors of ASD like aggression, impulsivity or lack of focus, and can themselves cause additional side-effects or symptoms. They do not address the root causes of ASD behaviors.

At Cell-El, we are expanding the focus of ASD diagnostics and treatment from solely behavioral to biological.  We are exploring the possible root causes of immune dysfunction and associated medical treatments. We believe that with the scientific understanding of the underlying biology of ASD, that our knowledge will be invaluable for application of precision diagnostic tools and treatments – all of which will much improve the immediate and long term prospects and quality of life for individuals with ASD and their families.

Help Us Help You

Better diagnostics for ASD based on laboratory-measured objective biomarkers can possibly enable researchers and clinicians to provide more precise and personalized treatment. You too can make a difference in the lives of children with ASD and their families by joining the Cell-El study. Cell-El is recruiting for two of our study cohorts. We are recruiting mothers, and their infants aged 10-19 months who have not been diagnosed with ASD but who have a sibling diagnosed with ASD. Cell-El is also recruiting children diagnosed with ASD between the ages of 2-18 years old whose parents are planning to take them privately to a clinic offering Stem Cell treatment for ASD.

Please contact Leah at [email protected] or fill out the form to find out about eligibility to participate in  our diagnostic study and please help spread the word about the Cell-El study. Sharing our study will enable our important biomarker diagnostic tool to be integrated into autism treatment as quickly as possible.
