Cell-El Ltd. recently presented a poster at the INSAR Annual Meeting in Prague. The poster summarizes a recent survey as to how parents value an objective test to help diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) early.

Today, trained specialists diagnose ASD using behavioral assessment methods. Many parents face long wait times. In young children, communication and social skills are still developing, which can make accurate assessment more challenging. As a result, many families are prevented from benefiting from early intervention.

Diagnostic Test

The Cell-El poster presented at INSAR focused on a simple question: How much do parents value an objective biomarker blood test that could identify ASD from infancy? Cell-El conducted a survey among parents of children with ASD. The results showed strong interest, especially if recommended by their physician. Many parents indicated that they would be willing to pay out-of-pocket to gain earlier clarity. Parents also shared that they see the greatest need for high-risk children, children with a family history of ASD, or children with unclear or borderline diagnoses. Many responses emphasized how important early diagnosis can be, both for starting intervention sooner and for reducing uncertainty.

Companion Diagnostic Test

Another question in the survey focused on a companion diagnostic test that could help guide treatment decisions. The test would involve additional biomarker analysis. 

Parents who participated in the survey also expressed strong interest in this type of test. Such a companion diagnostic could help tailor ASD treatment based on biological data, thereby supporting precision medicine by identifying the most effective therapies for each individual child.

These findings highlight a clear unmet need for more accessible and objective diagnostic tools for children at risk for developing ASD. Cell-El is continuing to improve both innovative blood-based diagnostic assays to aid in the early identification of ASD as well as the companion diagnostic test that could help guide treatment decisions. Cell-El’s goal is to support both physicians and families in making earlier, more informed decisions.
